Thomas G. Labrecque Classic

Run as One!

Team Hellgate ran as one heck of a team in Sunday's Run as One Thomas G. Labrecque Classic 4 miler in Central Park and as always there are great stories to tell!

Eamonn and Suzanne encouraged each other along the course to finish with personal bests right behind Alan coming off his remarkable Boston feat! Jovana and Lubia (Juan's wife) also left their old times behind them.

We have to welcome Mary, Beverly, and Jeff back to the club points racing circuit; it was as if they never left. Jeff also ran a spectacular race last week at the Adidas Run for the Parks!

Aurelio lead the men's team to a 17th place finish, while the women's team placed 10th! Hellgaters over 40 finished in 14th for the men and 8th for the women; in addition the ladies posted an all 50's team in 6th place! Congratulations! For complete Hellgate race results click here.

Please check out one of our fearless captains interviewed before the race on the NYRR site.

While we were all grimacing in pain over those West Side Hills Matthew and his lovely wife Ashley welcomed their son, Aidan Reagan Wizeman, into the world! Congrats Matt and Ashley! We can't wait to see your little one in his first Hellgate Singlet pair of running shoes!

Brooklyn Half Marathon

The 6:15am call time for the Brooklyn Half Marathon meant alarms rang out earlier than usual for many of the Hellgate Road Runners today.

Athletes assembled, the team bus made it's way to the famed Coney Island Boardwalk for the start of this 13.1 mile jaunt through Brooklyn, New York. Arriving with high spirits and time to spare the runners, stretched, discussed strategy and pace, visited the oh so essential Porta-Johns, warmed up and soaked up the early morning sunshine. Before long the time for talking was over and the the time for running was at hand.

Temporarily returning to New York from their year long Southern sojourn were Andrei and Heather. Eddie also burned up Ocean Parkway keeping tabs on the fastest newlyweds in the tristate area - Michael and Maritza. Tim Vavaretta also dropped the hammer and turned in a solid race.

Other notable finishers were Suzanne who's finish time was exactly the same for the Brooklyn Half Marathon as it was for the More Half Marathon and Angi who pummeled her personal record for the half marathon by 2 minutes.

Congratulations to all the Hellgate runners!

Scotland Run

The annual Scotland 10k Run took place this Sunday. It was a fitting damp and chilly morning as the large field lined up at the start! Again a large cheering squad was present at the finish waiting for the Hellgate team to push them those last 0.2 miles!

With 24 members completing the 10k course, not one of them wore a kilt (for shame!). However the skirts sure did well! Congratulations to the Hellgate women’s team for placing 2nd! Welcome back to British and guest Hellgaters, Natasha and David, who were able to post stong runs for us. We’re glad to have you run with us on your holiday! And congratulations to Jenn’s sister, Carrie, who ran her fist 10k race; she’s well on her way to her first half marathon!

Honorary Hellgater, Mustafa, placed 3rd overall; he has to let others win the NYRR races sometimes (he won the Colon Cancer 15k in March).
